Psychotherapy Services
Psychotherapy is a talk-based therapy that helps to improve a person's overall mental health. The focus of therapy is to help individuals perceive problems differently and to better understand the thoughts, feelings and physical symptoms associated including their impact on relationships. The goal is to develop insight and new responses to the problem situation.
Psychotherapy can be especially helpful in processing traumatic memories and therefore reduce the associated negative impacts.

Intake sessions can last more than one hour and comprise of covering consent to services and limits to confidentiality, discussing applicable historical events or immediate concerns and deciding collaboratively how to best approach the concern. Clients are not expected to delve into difficult aspects of their lives until feeling ready to do so.
Follow up sessions are typically spaced one to two weeks apart or occur on a monthly basis depending on client's circumstances. Some clients may find shorter-term services helpful.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy is a skills-based therapy that comprises four categories - Mindfulness (techniques to help a person live in the present moment), Interpersonal Skills, Emotion Regulation Skills and Crisis Intervention Strategies.
DBT emotion regulation strategies stem from a cognitive approach meaning that it focuses challenging harmful interpretations of distressing situations thereby reducing the distress they cause. DBT also emphasizes emotional validation - acknowledging and accepting feelings and seeing emotions as useful rather than something that should be pushed away or suppressed.
